We have made a video with 40 children from 7 different countries, all singing the well-loved classic 'Somewhere over the rainbow' to raise money for charities that help children in unfortunate situations who will be particularly struggling due to the effects of the worldwide pandemic of Covid-19.
The project has been produced by British performer Lauren Osborn with the track arrangement by American composer Paul Shapera, featuring children from England, Wales, USA, Singapore, South Korea, Myanmar, and Uganda.
We tried to choose charities who cover different areas of the Earth and also to be representative of the nationalities involved in the project. Some of the charities we are fundraising for are really small organisations who's entire fundraising events for the year have been canceled due to the effects of the pandemic and whos very focussed projects will be missing out on a great deal of vital work and help due to lack of fundraising.
We have been particularly struck by how unfair this whole situation has been for the children at this time, who are missing out on their education and unable to make special memories with friends, which is why we sought to get as many children involved with this project as possible, to give them something fun and creative to do and also to have at least one positive thing to take away from this unprecedented time. Hand in hand with this, we realised there are a horrifying amount of children who use school as an escape from their home lives, or families whos children only get properly fed at school due to their financial situations. This gave us the drive to really push forward with this project and aim to help as many children as possible with this fundraiser.
